Context

How the change of time and the expectation of change links Tatar culture and the whole world.

The mural Waiting depicts a girl looking at a landscape where the sun rises over the starry night sky. In his work, Nikita Erendaj reflects on the time and alternation of life periods. This is a reflection on caring as part of a moment in time, the fleeting nature of the present – sunset is replaced by sunrise as a symbol of expectation and long-awaited changes.
The philosophical meaning of the work can be interpreted as follows. The harmony of the world – people, objects and nature entails continuous exchange. The cycle of declarations, the creation of objects or work with them, experiencing certain states and being in different places is the integral course of life.

At the same time, it is not only people who construct order, it's the objects themselves that change people, create emotions, and transform space with their presence and functionality. A person is a part of these exchange processes, a multi-layered matrix of time and space, where objects turn out to be portals for traveling between layers of different meanings and their nuances.

Process

Art form: mural
Style: naïve
Technique: image composition modeled after Renaissance stained glass
Material used: rollers and facade paint

Ital. Mural — wall

Monumental wall painting created on a faсade or a blank wall of a building or any other urban architectural objects.
The sketch of the mural was transferred by Nikita Erendaj to the wall by hand using «hieroglyphs.» This technique involves the creation of specific markings at the preparation stage – the artist fills the entire wall space with special symbols, photographs the general view and overlays a translucent image in Photoshop. Thus, the artist uses symbols as a frame of reference. Among the various signs, Nikita encrypted a message to his girlfriend – a declaration of love that passers-by would hardly notice.

The work on the mural lasted for almost a month. Such an impressive time span is not only due to the preparation stage that involved the «hieroglyphs,» but also with the concept of the mural itself. The image was envisioned as thoroughly detailed, so the artist used different brushes – from house-painting brushes to the thinnest ones. The artist met with local residents while working on Waiting – they had tea together in the yard, as has already become a tradition for our program. Nikita made friends with local children and talked about how to become an artist, why paint on houses, and how computer games inspired him to become an artist.
